Can't seem to get Red5-1.0.8 M2 to run, init.d errors when running update-rc.d red5 defaults.

Sean Pinkerton
Hello everyone,

I must be doing something wrong with the installation of Red5-1.0.8 M2.

Errors show up when I run the command sudo update-rc.d red5 defaults

insserv: missing `Default-Start:'  entry: please add even if empty.
insserv: missing `Default-Stop:'   entry: please add even if empty.
insserv: Default-Start undefined, assuming empty start runlevel(s) for script `red5'
insserv: Default-Stop  undefined, assuming empty stop  runlevel(s) for script `red5'

Anyhow have any idea what the problem is, I followed the M1 install instructions to the letter.

If you could help me out that would be great.

Running Ubuntu 16.04

Thanks,
Sean

By steps, do you mean the Linux (Ubuntu) steps here: https://github.com/Red5/red5-service

Re: Can't seem to get Red5-1.0.8 M2 to run, init.d errors when running update-rc.d red5 defaults.

Yes, my only guess to the problem is maybe I'm not setting the RED5_HOME environment correctly.

I have red5 installed in the folder /home/smeagol/red5/red5-server

So I ran this command: export RED5_HOME=/home/smeagol/red5/red5-server and also tried export RED5_HOME=/home/smeagol/red5/red5-server/

Thanks for your help,
Sean

Did you set that RED5_HOME path in the /etc/init.d/red5 script, if not, please try that and let us know if its working.
